About

Revolution ID is an Auckland, New Zealand based company that provides web based carbon footprint management software. Our enterprise software is aimed at multinational, heavy industry and geographically distributed organisations such as government and councils who want to take a continuous assessment, target driven approach to carbon footprint management and may need to comply with several different GHG programs at the same time.

Strategy

Our operations are made up primarily of seven home-based consultants, an outsourced engineering team in Asia, two outsourced data centres and leased, shared office space in central Auckland. Using Foundation™, our own carbon footprint management software, we track our scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions on a monthly basis. We also collect information on water usage as well as other resources such as office supplies. We then enter productivity data to enable us to calculate emissions relative to output.
We have set targets to reduce our footprint over the next few months by implementing energy, water and waste efficiency programs and will be offsetting the unavoidable emissions at the end of the financial year. We are assisting our suppliers and customers with information and systems to incorporate similar programs within their own organisations with the ability to share this data with ourselves and their other trading partners as easily and conveniently as possible.

With the help of our partners, customers and suppliers, we intend to demonstrate the ease of the supply chain collaboration that is needed to share the necessary emissions data between organisations in line with international reporting requirements.

Our scope 1 emissions are fairly small as our staff work mainly from home and use the shared offices in the city for client meetings and presentations. We use video and telephone conferencing extensively and consolidate appointments requiring  travel to two or three days a week by using group calendars for visibility of each others’ schedules.

Being a fairly new company we have no historical emissions information for which to use as a base year and set targets against. However, by entering a high level of detail of our extended operations, we will provide ourselves a solid base year to work from moving forward. We also hope to act as a model for other small, primarily home-based organisations to gauge what their own carbon footprint is likely to be and demonstrate ways to minimise it through simple technology and business processes.

We will be publishing our carbon footprint and emission reduction techniques on our website accompanied with a blog and invite feedback and input into our wiki type resource. We will also document the processes we went through and the pitfalls we experienced having our carbon footprint independently verified and purchasing and ultimately retiring carbon credits to offset our unavoidable emissions for the 2008 financial year.

We believe in leading by example. As well as our environmental reporting, we will be blogging our experiences with our Corporate social responsibility program that is currently underway. Corporate social responsibility programs are often perceived as being activities that larger corporations undertake. However, we believe these kinds of activities will become a staple of all "good" businesses in the future
and to this end we have made it our normal business practice from day one.
