Introduction:

The Climate Neutral Network (CN Net) is pleased to announce its Second Virtual Conference ( 18 October 2011), organized by the United Nations Environment Programme in collaboration with the City of Arendal.

 James Greyson

James Greyson leads the global security and whole system design think tank BlindSpot. As a member and 'Climate Centurion' in the UN Climate Neutral Network, BlindSpot's ambition is for the reversal of climate change to become the the new business as usual.

James works with MIT's Climate CoLab to build a worldwide collaborative community that is creating new policy opportunities for climate and green economy.
James has also added two proposals in the CoLab showing how rapid emissions reduction and sequestration is possible by aligning the power of economics with the needs of the climate, nature and people.
  1. Reduction. Today's economies grow by converting ever more resources and nature into wastes and emissions. The other possible growth model, called 'circular economy', would grow by regenerating nature and resources and by phasing out waste stockpiles in the air, land and water. China has now adopted circular economy as a national goal; James will describe how it can be implemented by a simple method of accounting for market externalities.
  2. Sequestration. Biochar is charcoal that can be produced as a by-product of renewable energy supply, then mixed with nutrients such as compost and added into top-soils. This boosts the soil eco-system, allowing the same land to support more agriculture and forests with little or no synthetic fertilisers. James will describe how small scale sustainable biochar can revive both the climate and local economies.
