To inspire young people in the Ogoni region to take positive action to conserve the environment, UNEP is introducing a schools programme called Green Frontiers. This environmental education initiative is being implemented in conjunction with the Rivers State Government and builds on UNEP’s ongoing outreach and capacity building efforts.
Initially, eight schools in Ogoniland are involved in a pilot phase. Tertiary level students are also invited to participate. Apart from hands-on Green Frontiers club activities like tree planting and taking part in sanitation days, the programme’s forthcoming highlights will be a competition and schools debate.
