DDP was entrusted with the task of catalyzing and supporting efforts by different stakeholders to consider and discuss the WCD core values and strategic priorities through multistakeholder dialogues at country, regional and global levels with the aim of improving decision-making on dams and their alternatives.
It was organized through the Dams and Development Forum (DDF) annual meetings, the issues-based workshops and multistakeholder dialogue events in the context of relevant international meetings. The global dialogue aimed to share experiences of decision-making on dams and their alternatives based on the core values and strategic priorities as well as to discuss outstanding controversial issues related to the dams and development field. One major role of global dialogue was to catalyze national and sectoral experiences and lessons learned into key issues and recommended strategies that may assist countries in framing national policy-making.
DDP facilitated national and regional multistakeholder dialogue activities and processes leading to recommendations on polices and procedures to improve decision-making. DDP supported such dialogue initiatives upon request from representative stakeholders through financial resources, access to expertise, information materials and examples of approaches used successfully elsewhere. Building on the dialogues and upon request of governments and financing agencies, DDP assisted in improving guidelines and criteria for dams and their alternatives through the dissemination and application of the practical tools developed by the project.
