World Water Council Welcomes the Report

LONDON, November 16, 2000 - Dr. Mahmoud Abu Zeid, President of the World Water Council and Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Egypt, welcomed the release of the report, noting that:

The World Water Council includes among its members:

  • the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD
  • the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID)
  • the International Hydropower Association (IHA)
  • the International Water Resources Association (IWRA)
  • the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN)

These organizations represent both the users of water for social and economic development, and those who are directly concerned with ensuring that development is environmentally sustainable.

The World Water Council intends to establish a committee from its members to study the report of the Commission on Dams to determine how its recommendations may fit into the Council policy and its recommendations to governments.
