Uruguay
A diverse group of 40 stakeholders in the dams debate gathered in Montevideo, Uruguay, on November 26 & 27, 2001 to hold a dialogue on Dams, the Environment, and Development. The event, hosted by the South American Technical Advisory Committee (SAMTAC) of the Global Water Partnership (GWP), consisted of presentations by different local stakeholders, a presentation by a DDP representative, and in the end, a discussion about dams and water resources in the Uruguayan context. The event was seen as a beneficial opportunity to analyze the role of dam projects within the context of water resources development in Uruguay, and to foster multi-stakeholder dialogue. Participants recognized the WCD's Final Report as an important input to guide and stimulate discussions about dam projects.
