Ramsar Site Management Plans

Many States have developed site-specific management plans for wetlands that they have designated as Ramsar sites under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. The Ramsar Secretariat encourages Parties to integrate Ramsar site management plans into the public development planning system at the local, regional, or national level. This integration of site management plans into spatial and economic planning at the appropriate level will facilitate the implementation, public participation, and local ownership of the plans. Furthermore, integration can enhance the opportunities for funding from local and external sources.

To find out which designated Ramsar sites have a management plan, see the Ramsar sites database at http://www.wetlands.org/RSDB/default.htm.  Some of the management plans are available from the Ramsar Secretariat. To request information on specific management plans, the request can be addressed to ramsar@ramsar.org
