National Reporting through a “Transparent and Consultative Process Involving the Public”

In Decision I/8 on “Reporting Requirements”, the First Meeting of the Parties of the Aarhus Convention set forth the procedure for Parties to report on “legislative, regulatory and other measures taken to implement the provisions of the Convention” as well as “practical implementation.” The national reports should be prepared “through a transparent and consultative process involving the public.”

The Decision also included a suggested Format for Aarhus Convention Implementation Report Certification Sheet. In filling out this form, a Party is asked to provide brief information on the process by which this report has been prepared, including information on which types of public authorities were consulted or contributed to its preparation, on how the public was consulted and how the outcome of the public consultation was taken into account and on the material which was used as a basis for preparing the report.
