Assessment and Verification under CITES

At the request of affected Parties, the CITES Secretariat and relevant experts have conducted assessment and verification missions. Mission teams review implementation of the Convention, verify compliance, provide technical assistance, and prepare recommendations. Such missions have taken place, for example, in relation to illegal trade in tiger, ivory, caviar, and Tibetan antelope.
