Cameroon’s Efforts to Strengthen the Capacity of Magistrates and Other Legal Officers

In partnership with various development actors and NGOs, the Government of Cameroon has undertaken to strengthen the capacity of Magistrates, State Councils, and other legal officers to enforce MEAs. Activities include training seminars and workshops, as well as awareness-raising programmes for these officials on the application of MEAs.

Recent initiatives have been carried out in collaboration with WWF. Through this collaboration, sensitisation seminars have been held in some provincial headquarters to train magistrates on issues relating to wild flora and fauna conservation and the protection of species threatened with extinction (especially pursuant to CITES). Similarly, the National Hydocarbons Corporation (SNH) has collaborated with the World Bank and the Ministry of Justice to carry out capacity building programmes for magistrates on environmental law.
