Information Unit for Conventions
The role of the Information Unit for Conventions (IUC) is to support the public information and media outreach activities of the various Convention secretariats. The Unit publishes simplified guides to explain the science and politics underlying each Convention, manages press relations and organizes workshops. In the case of the Climate Change Convention it also assists with the implementation of Article 6 on Education, Training and Public Awareness. In this way the IUC seeks to promote awareness of and support for Conventions and their objectives.
The Conventions supported by the IUC are:
- Basel Convention on hazardous wastes
- Convention on Biological Diversity
- Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species
- Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer
- Rotterdam Convention trade in hazardous chemicals and pesticides
- Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants
- UN Framework Convention on Climate Change
