UNEP (DELC) is convening two intergovernmental meetings 9 till 13 November 2009 to review and further develop two sets of draft environmental law guidelines. The meetings will take place at UNEP HQ in Nairobi, Kenya.

The first meeting (9 -11 November 2009) will review and further develop the "Draft guidelines for the development of national legislation on liability, response action and compensation for damage caused by activities dangerous to the environment".

The second meeting (12 - 13 November 2009) will review and further develop the "Draft guidelines for the development of national legislation on access to information, public participation and access to justice in environmental matters".

Both meetings are part of the follow up process to UNEP Governing Council decision 25/11 on environmental law (see below under meeting documents). The objective of the meetings is to finalize the discussion on the guidelines and agree on two sets of draft guidelines that will be forwarded with a view to their adoption to the 11th Special Session of the Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum, which will take place in Bali, Indonesia from 24-26 February 2010.
