Second Preparatory Meeting of the World Congress on Justice, Governance and Law for Environmental Sustainability

Venue: Buenos Aires, Argentina
Objective: To further advance discussions and gain consensus on the themes of justice, governance and law for environmental sustainability in preparation for the outcome document of the World Congress for submission to the Rio+20 Conference.
Based on the First Preparatory Meeting, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia –specifically its outcome document, ‘The Kuala Lumpur Statement’ – the discussions on environmental governance, justice and law will continue in Buenos Aires. The expected outcome is to gain broad consensus on key issues in order to prepare a strong draft outcome document to the World Congress on Justice, Governance and Law for Environmental Sustainability in June.
Significantly, this Second Preparatory Meetingis strategically being held immediately prior to the Ibero-American Judicial Summit.This event “supports the cooperation and coordination of the Judiciaries of the twenty three countries that comprise the Latin American Community of Nations, bringing together the highest courts and governing bodies of the Latin American judicial systems in a single forum. It unites the Presidents of the Supreme Courts and Tribunals of Justice and the leaders of the Latin American Councils of the Judiciary”. The Ibero-American Judicial Summit will take place from 25thto 27th April 2012 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after the Second Preparatory Meeting for the World Congress, and will be hosted by the Hon. Mr. Lorenzetti, Chief Justice of Argentina.
