ENVIRONMENTAL RULE OF LAW

Mr. Shinya Murase

Professor, Jochi (Sophia) University Faculty of Law, Japan and Member of the UN International Law Commission

Mr Shinya Murase is a member of the UN International Law Commission, and Professor in the Jochi (Sophia) University Faculty of Law in Japan, since 1993. He is also a visiting professor in Columbia Law School, and has been a law professor or fellow in other institutions such as Hardvard Law School and Rikkyo University College of Law. During 1980 and 1982 he was a Legal Officer in the Codification Division, of the Office of Legal Affairs in the United Nations. He is Member of the Executive Council of Kokusaiho Gakkai (Japanese Society of International Law), and Member of the Curatorium of the Hague Academy of International Law.

He participates as Member of the Eminent Persons/Experts Panel of the ASEAN Regional Forum. As well, Mr. Murase is Member of the Headquarters Council for the Research Activities of the Antarctic Area, Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (MEXT) of Japan; Chair for the Committee on the Legal Principles relating to Climate Change; and Member and Acting Chair of the Committee on a Future Framework forAddressing Climate Change of the Industrial Structure Council, Ministry of Economy,Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan.
