Facts About Water Harvesting
Cost
The installation cost of a rainwater harvesting structure depends on which technique is applied. When rainwater is harvested from rooftops and stored in underground tanks of 50.000 to 200.000 litres the total cost ranges from 0.03 to 0.20 U$ per litre of harvesting capacity. This includes a hand pump, piping system and supervision in an easy accessible to very remote mountainous areas.

A rainwater harvesting structure with a greater capacity can bring down the cost per litre even further

Water quality

The water quality largely depends on how clean the collection surface and storage tank are. In many cases, water collected from rooftops is clean and can be used for drinking purposes without additional treatment. .Disinfection is required when there is potential for waterborne diseases. In South Australia 77% of children drink rainwater.
