Division of Early Warning and Assessment

DEWA Capacity Building Activities

UNEP’s Division of Environmental Policy Implementation (DEPI) is responsible for the management of a UNEP-wide database on the organization’s technology support and capacity building activities.  All of DEWA’s TS & CB project activities are being entered to this database on an on-going basis.

Traditionally, DEWA’s capacity building activities have largely been focussed in the area of integrated environmental assessment where national and local authorities have received support for the production of national environmental outlook reports, various thematic assessment reports and city-level SOE reports.

However, capacity building in the area of data and information management, networking (both national and regional), geographic information systems, monitoring systems and early warning are now beginning to evolve.

In addition, a GEO Fellowship Programme assists young scientists from around the world to play an active role in contributing to the various chapters of the Global Environment Outlook report.
