The DEWA capacity toolbox provides a coherent set of quality-tested tools to support the Environment Watch system. It helps to ensure the scientific credibility and the political legitimacy and relevance of Environment Watch system processes and products, and also their compatibility and complementarity. Significant opportunities for increased efficiency exist by enhancing the access to existing tools and by facilitating further development of tools in a systematic and coherent manner.
The development of the toolbox will be managed by DEWA in cooperation with partners active in the field. It will consist of an inventory of manuals, procedures, guidelines, training materials, best practices, and necessary standards and technologies for monitoring, assessment, networking and exchange of data and information.
The toolbox will include information on which tools should be used where, when and for what. It will collect and review tools which could be included in the toolbox. Tools will be subject to customization, evaluation and revision as required. The toolbox will be available at this link.
Examples of existing capacity building tools include:
. GEO training manual for integrated environmental assessment
. GEO training manual for city SOE reports
. Millennium Ecosystem Assessment methods manual
. Scale- and user-independent Land Cover Classification System (LCCS) of the FAO/UNEP joint coordinated GLCN
. GEO Training Modules (currently under development)
. Guidelines on mapping the assessment landscape (currently under development)
