Green Frontiers

To inspire young people in the Ogoni region to take positive action to conserve the environment, UNEP has introduced a schools programme called Green Frontiers. This environmental education initiative is being implemented in conjunction with the Rivers State Government and builds on UNEP’s ongoing outreach and capacity building efforts.

Initially, eight schools in Ogoniland are involved in a pilot phase. So far around 650 students have decided to become Green Frontiers Club members. Tertiary level students are also invited to participate.

Hands-on Green Frontiers club activities include taking part in sanitation days and tree planting to mark World Environment Day 2011.
