Integrating climate change responses into national development processes
UN Environment has more than 20 years of experience working on climate change, focusing on efforts to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, mainly by promoting renewable energy, improved energy efficiency and the development of a carbon market.
Our division aims to:
- Provide policy support for low-carbon growth, with a focus on clean and renewable energy sources, energy efficiency and energy conservation.
- Favour the transfer of clean energy technologies and ensure that obsolete technologies are phased out.
- Assist countries in sound investment choices through private and public channels, including the Clean Development Mechanism.
- Propose solutions on transport - which represents one quarter of all energy-related greenhouse gas emissions - such as promoting greater use of public transport and encouraging “clean” improvements to all kinds of transport.
