The East African DataBase and Atlas Project trained 1 expert in GIS techniques. The GIS unit currently digitizes and integrates the collected information into a structured database. Public awareness campaigns are being held to promote the use of GIS in coastal zone managment in Comoros.

The database consists of ArcView based GIS layers and a set of attribute tabular data. Requests for data can be addressed to the collaborating agency in Comoros or the project team.

The major topics (GIS Layers) covered are:

Administration & Infrastructure | Biological Resources

Socio-economic indicators | Geomorphology & Geology | Hydrology

Culture & Tourism | Environmental Hazards | Fisheries

The layers currently available for Comoros are summarized on a downloadable list. A brief description and the scale is given. All layers are in geograhical coordinates. Indication is given in case of additional tabular information.

The information contained in the GIS database is as accurate as possible within the limitations of scale and is supplied in good faith. However, any indication of legal status of land, the delimitation of gazetted protected areas, the existence of public roads and access, depth of water, or any such information, cannot be presumed to be proof of the same and the publishers cannot be held responsible for errors.
