External Peer Review of the UNEP Evaluation Function
The Evaluation Office is currently undergoing an independent external Peer Review to be conducted under the auspices of United Nations Evaluation Group (UNEG) in partnership with the OECD-DAC Evaluation Network and supported by contributions from the Belgian Government. The Peer Review will provide an assessment of the Evaluation Office of UNEP against United Nations Evaluation Group (UNEG) Norms and Standards.
The purpose of the peer review is summarized as follows:
- Enhancing knowledge about, confidence in and use of evaluations by governing bodies and senior management of each of the two agencies, and in the case of UN-Habitat lead to informed decisions about increasing the independence of the evaluation office.
- Improving evaluation policy and practice, including stronger planning and resourcing of evaluation (also based on greater appreciation and support of evaluation by governing bodies and senior management), by sharing good practice and building internal capacity and confidence of the Evaluation Office; and
- Supporting the Evaluation Office's efforts to ensure greater acceptance and integration of evaluation findings in each agency’s performance management system.
