Chinese Adventurers Climb 9 Peaks to Raise Awareness about the Olympic Spirit, Environmental Conservation and the Spirit of the Kunming City

In 2008 the Olympic Games will be held in China for the first time in history. In honour of the event, and in honour of his own city of Kunming, Chinese entrepreneur and environmentalist Li Jie, embarked on an ambitious adventure with well-known explorer Jin Fei Bao of reaching the 9 extreme spots on earth including the highest peaks on the seven continents:

Mt. Everest (8844 m) in China and Nepal; Mt. Kilimanjaro (5895 m) in Tanzania; Mt. Kosciuszko (2228 m) in Australia; Mt. Vinson (4897 m) in Antarctica; Mt. Aconcagua (6962 m) in Argentina; Mt. Mckinley (6195 m) in the USA and Mt. Elbrus (5642 m) in Russia. In addition to that, the expedition will include reaching the South Pole at 90 degrees south, and the North Pole at 90 degrees north.

On 14 May 2006, the Olympic flag was flown for the first time over Mt. Everest. The team will complete their Kilimanjaro expedition on 22 October 2006. Soon, the UNEP flag will fly along-side its Olympic counterpart as UNEP had decided to lend its support to this inspiring effort.
