Mission

“To make people aware of the risks threatening our future generations.”

Etienne Bourgeois, director of the Tara Expeditions and founder of the Tara Arctic program

Etinne Bourgeois, founder of the Tara Arctic Programme and director of the Tara Expeditions sums up the fundamentals of Tara’s mission: “Will there still be ice on Earth during the summer 50 years from now? It comes down to us to act now—immediately—with our own means.”

According to him, Tara has been a fantastic tool to bear witness of the fragility of the environment.  Since august 2004, Tara has adapted to six expeditions and to the needs of the scientists and artists who came on board.

The name of Tara’s next challenge is Tara Arctic 2007-2008. Beginning in September 2006, Tara will spend two years in the midst of the Arctic Ocean allowing scientists to study and understand the phenomenon of climatic changes in high latitudes. More about Tara’s mission and philosophy
