Ronal Gainza-Carmenates

Ronal Gainza works as a programme officer for the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) at the Economics and Trade Branch of UNEP where he coordinates PAGE's support to countries interested in transiting towards an inclusive green economy in the context of the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development. Prior to joint UNEP in 2011, Ronal collaborated for three years with the Research Group on Economics and Management of the Environment from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) where he undertook research in the field of climate change and political economy, particularly the implications that a post-2012 global climate policy would have on developing countries. He started his career as an environmental officer at ?the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba (2000-2004) where he advised enterprises on adopting environmental management practices.

Ronal has a multidisciplinary environmental education, with a PhD in Environmental Economics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland (2011), a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering (2004) and a Bachelor of Biology (2000) from Cuban universities, as well as postgraduate certificates in Waste Management (Technological University of Dresden, Germany) and Environmental Management for Enterprises (University of Geneva). He is author of several articles published in peer-reviewed journals and books in the area of Economic Policy, International Affairs, Climate Change and Green Economy. ?He has also contributed to some of UNEP’s publications on Green Economy and Sustainable Development.
