Geoffery Wahungu
Geoffery Wahungu
Prof. Geoffery M. Wahungu was born in Kenya in 1968. He holds a Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science in Wildlife Management from Moi University. He has a PhD in Ecology from the Griffith University, Australia.

Prof. Wahungu started his career in 1993 as a Research Camp Manager, in Kenya Wildlife Service. In 1995 he joined Moi University as a Tutorial Fellow. In 1998 he joined Griffith University, Australian School of Environmental Studies as a Junior Research Fellow. In 2000 he came back to join Moi University as a Lecture in the Department of Wildlife Management and later became the chair of the department. He was alter elevated to a Senior Lecturer in the same department.

In 2007, Prof. Wahungu was a visiting scholar to the department of fish, wildlife and conservation biology in Colorado state university. In 2010 he became an associate professor, ecology and environment of Moi University and was appointed Dean in the School of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, Karatina University a constituent college of Moi University. He has many Research Publications and is a Board Member and Reviewer in various Environmental journals.

Prof. Wahungu has a wealth of experience which includes:

  • Over eight years Management experience as Head of Department of Wildlife Management and Dean in a University.

  • Extensive experience as lead consultant in regional and national ecological, social and Environmental Impact Assessment over fifteen years of research and monitoring, wildlife and community conservation and enterprise development in East Africa.

  • Over ten years continuous research and monitoring of climate change influence on Savanna Ecosystem, Laikipia, Kenya

  • Over fifteen years working experience lead consultant in development of over ten Natural Resource Management Plans including Park Plans; Lakes and Catchments Management Plans; Grazing plans, Community Natural Resource Policies and by laws and Range Management and Monitoring.

  • Currently, Prof. Wahungu is the Director General of National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) Kenya a State Corporation that is responsible for the management of the environment, and the environmental policy of Kenya.
