Engr. Bahijjahtu Abubakar
Engr. Abubakar is currently the National Coordinator of the Renewable Energy Programme of the Federal Ministry of Environment. She represents the Federal Ministry of Environment on several boards.
Since July 2012 she has served as the elected Co-Chair for the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) to reduce Short Lived Climate Pollutants (Working Group and Steering Committee). Her responsibilities for the CCAC include designing policies to help reduce the effects of black carbon, HFCs and methane emissions worldwide. She is particularly interested in ensuring maximum awareness on Short Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs) in Africa.
She is also keenly aware of the links between sustainable energy provision and gender equality; and has consequently launched the Rural Women Energy Security (RUWES) project, which includes a component on National Clean Cooking Scheme (NCCS) whose drive is to reduce and eventually eliminate cooking with solid fuels (firewood) to cleaner cooking technologies.
