Halifa Omar Drammeh
Halifa Omar Drammeh until recently has served as Director of the United Nations Management Group (EMG) with a membership of forty-five UN Agencies, Funds, Programmes, Organizations and MEAS. The EMG, Chaired by the UNEP Executive Director, was established in response to UN General Assembly Resolution 53/242 in order to provide for the most efficient co-ordination of United Nations environment programmes. Prior to this appointment in July 2005, he was the Deputy Director, Division of Policy Development and Law.
Since joining the United Nations, he has served in several senior capacities including Regional Adviser (Technical assistance, UN Country Programmes and Regional Co-operation in the Regional Office for Africa), Senior Environmental Officer (Integrated Freshwater, Coastal and Marine Environment Branch)); Senior Programme Officer (Division of Environmental Conventions) and Deputy Director (Division of Policy Development and Law). Prior to joining the United Nations, he had served the government of The Gambia as a Senior Officer in the Ministry of Natural Resources.
He holds a Master of Science degree (M.Sc) in Ichthyology and Fishculture. His masters thesis was on the effects of dammed river discharge on fisheries.
