Experts' profiles - Mohamed Atani
Mohamed Atani
Mohamed Atani is Officer-in-Charge of the Publishing Unit in the Division of Communications and Public Information (DCPI). His main responsibility is to coordinate the overall publishing functions of UNEP.

Mohamed is also manager of the Online Access to Research in the Environment (OARE). This project is part of Research4Life initiative led by UNEP in partnership with World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and several lead international publishers.

Prior to joining UNEP, Mohamed worked for the World Health Organization. He was the manager of the African Index Medicus, a project that aims to give access to health research carried out in Africa. He has worked closely with African medical researchers and editors to give their work worldwide visibility. He has also worked on the Global Health Library, an electronic portal that World Health Organization has developed to facilitate access to health information at global level.

In addition, Mohamed has worked for the office of the World Health Organization for National Epidemic Preparedness and Response. He participated in the development and implementation of an electronic portal of information resources for public health laboratories professionals in developing countries.

Mohamed has expertise in information sciences mainly in the field of knowledge management and sharing, electronic access to scientific information and capacity building. He holds a Master Degree in Information Sciences and Documentary Engineering from University Lyon 1, France and a Master of Science degree in Management and Organizational Development from United States International University, Nairobi, Kenya.
