Takehiro Nakamura
Takehiro Nakamura, Senior Programme Officer, International Waters, Division of GEF Coordination has since 2003 been engaged in the development and oversight of projects mainly funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) in addressing transboundary and global issues relevant to international water systems (groundwater aquifers, river/lake basins, and coastal and marine environment).

Many of the projects are designed and implemented based on the ecosystem approach. Before he started dealing with transboundary water issues through GEF funded projects, he has been engaged in assessment of ecosystem conditions in river/lake basins for water management purposes, addressing water related emergencies, setting up institutional mechanisms for shared river basins and marine environment, among other issues, while staying in UNEP since 1992.

He has obtained the Bachelor and Master of Engineering degrees from Kyoto University in 1985 and 1987, respectively. He has obtained a Master of Science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1991, and completed the programme for his Doctor of Global Environmental Studies at Kyoto University in 2007.
