Njeri Wamukonya
Njeri Wamukonya currently works as an energy programme officer in the Regional Office for Africa. She is also responsible for climate change. Her efforts are directed mainly at issues relating to access to modern energy, providing support to policy makers in the field of energy and climate change. She is also specially interested in gender issues.

Prior to joining UNEP, Wamukonya was a researcher and project manager at UNEP Risoe Centre (URC) based in Denmark where she worked extensively on energy and climate change. She was responsible for managing a project on Capacity Building in Clean Development Mechanism in three African countries. She also worked on various energy projects and published some critical articles as well as editing a book on power sector reform. Prior to URC Wamukonya worked a programme manager at the Energy and Development Resources Centre based in the University of Cape Town, South Africa focusing on energy and climate change issues.

Wamukonya earned a Ph.D from the Dept. Environmental Science, Policy and Management, University of California, Berkeley, USA with concentration on energy policy. She also holds two M.Sc degrees one on Energy and Resources and the other on Wood Science and Technology from the same University.
