David Meadows
David Meadows is based in Geneva, Switzerland where he works as a Programme Officer with the United Nations Environment Programme in the Post Conflict and Disaster Management Branch.

His education commenced in a British Military College in Yorkshire, England where he combined both education and military training in communications intelligence, and graduated in 1972. Following his military service, he then spent more than fifteen years with the British Police Service, working with a county force and then with Interpol at New Scotland Yard in London.

He joined the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations in 1989, and took up his first post in Jerusalem, Israel, and has subsequently worked in numerous locations around the world including, Namibia, Angola, Western Sahara, Liberia, South Africa, Sudan, Darfur, Cote dIvoire, Egypt, Syria, Kuwait, Iraq, Gaza, Haiti, East Timor, Australia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Maldives, Bosnia, Croatia, and lately was part of an assessment team into Lebanon and Nigeria. A number of these countries have been extremely challenging not only from the operations point of view, but challenging in security and physical well being.

His main occupation in all these missions has been in Peacekeeping, Post Conflict and Disaster Management, with a focus on communications, operations and administration. He also has experience in general administration, logistics, audits and audit responses, certification of accounts (as a Certifying Officer), procurement and operations as well as security.

David recently returned from both Sri Lanka and Ogoniland, Nigeria where his Branch is putting in an environmental assessment programme, looking at the effects of the oilfields on that area, and will travel regularly between Geneva and Nigeria to set up the new operation and also back to Asia to generally review the UNEP operations following the December 2004 tsunami.

David Meadows is a British citizen, residing in France with his wife, Erica, an American from Baltimore, and their 22-month-old son Richard.
