Jyoti Prasad Painuly is working as a Senior Energy Planner with UNEP Risoe Centre on Energy, Climate Change and Sustainable Development (URC) in Roskilde, Denmark. He has been working on a range of issues related to renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate change. The focus area of his work during the past few years has been financing of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and climate change issues. Bio energy is another area of his current interest.
Prior to joining the UNEP Risoe Centre in 1997, he was an Associate Professor with the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai, where he taught courses in Energy- Environment area to graduate students besides working on a variety of projects. He also has experience of working with energy industry in India. Jyoti Painuly is a Fellow (Management) of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, and also holds a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, India.
One of his recent project, “Financing PV Solar Home Systems in South India”, which he implemented jointly with UNEP Paris, won 2006 Energy Globe Award in Fire category.
