Experts' profiles - Tess Cieux
Tess Cieux
Tess Cieux is Associate Programme Officer at the United Nations Environment Programme Office in Washington D.C. She is a native Chicagoan with French nationality who worked in the private sector in France for over 18 years, in the fields of health care and tourism. Her bilingual skills and organizational capabilities proved to be assets in the challenging and fast-paced arena of start-ups, where she held several managerial posts.

An interest in sustainable business practices led her to join the Paris office of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in early 2000. Since then, she has been working in the environmental field, first in France and then in the U.S., engaging both the public and private sectors in sustainable development issues. Presently based in Washington D.C., she is in charge of outreach, promoting UNEPs activities through Congressional and State Department briefings, civil society forums, and donor community symposia. She has raised UNEPs visibility in North America by orchestrating special events such as the Billion Tree Campaign, the International Childrens Painting Competition, and various World Environment Day festivities, including last year in Barrow, Alaska and this year in Chicago, Illinois.

Present fund-raising projects include the creation of a revolving fund for wastewater management in the Caribbean, and promoting partnerships for UNEPs Great Apes Survival Project.

As an avid birder, she is particularly interested in raising awareness on climate change, which is modifying traditional migratory patterns and disrupting bird habitats.
