Responsibilities: Working with UN Country Teams and sister UN agencies in Delivering as One in the countries of the region, including support to environmental mainstreaming in UNDAFs as well as participating in their planning processes; participation in regional UN mechanisms, including Regional UNDG and Peer Support Group and Regional Coordination Mechanism. Coordination of Civil Society engagement through consultation meetings and advocacy, outreach and information dissemination as well as capacity building. Coordination with ESCWA on Rio+20 follow up and SDGs and work at regional and national lelvel with a number of partners on the Post-2015 Development Agenda consultations. Support to the coordination of Programme of Work at the regional level through close consultation and cooperation with UNEP HQ. Represent the Organization at international, regional, inter-agency meetings, seminars and conferences
Expertise: : In environment mainstreaming and sustainable development, environment impact assessment, environmental management and cleaner production within industrial settings. Strong knowledge in results based management and programme evaluation.
Professional Background: : Eighteen years of experience with the private sector, academia and international organizations on environmental management, environmental impact assessment and sustainable development. Before joining UNEP, Melanie served 2 years in Malaysia working in the private sector undertaking Environmental Impact Assessments for major water resource projects and prior to that with the private sector and academia in the UK working with small and medium-sized enterprises in support of cleaner production and Environmental Management Systems. Having served in both public and private sector and in a number of regions, Melanie has an appreciation of strength in diversity and North-South and South-South cooperation, and making full use of multi-stakeholder approaches.
Melanie holds a Master of Science in Environmental Analysis and Dynamics from the University of Hull, UK and a Bachelors of Science in Geography from the University of Liverpool, UK.
