Alberto Pacheco Capella
Alberto Pacheco Capella coordinates the UNEP Regional Seas Programme. He leads the work on the green economy in oceans, in partnership several UN-Agencies and other leading organizations, including NGOs and academia, and is also responsible for the engagement of the Regional Seas Conventions and Action Plans in the World Ocean Assessment (Regular Process), under the mandate of the UN General Assembly.

Before joining the Regional Seas Programme, he worked at UNEP Finance Initiative in Geneva, managing the water and finance portfolio, linking private sector participation to sustainable investments in water. He also worked at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources as a policy advisor on trade and the environment within the World Trade Organization negotiations, and in the private sector as a banker in institutional and corporate banking.

Alberto is a LID alumnus from Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Science with a focus on Environmental Economics and Environmental Law and Policy from Lund University in Sweden, and a Bachelors Degree in Banking and Finance from the Universidad Metropolitana in Venezuela.
