Alberto Pacheco Capella
Alberto Pacheco Capella is the MEA Focal Point (Biodiversity and Ecosystems) for Latin America and the Caribbean. He helps member states in the region to implement their commitments under the global biodiversity conventions, including reviews of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and execution of GEF and EC projects.

He has held various positons in UNEP, coordinating the Regional Seas Programme and as a project manager of the water and finance working group, linking private sector participation to sustainable investments in water at the UNEP Finance Initiative. He also worked at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources as a policy advisor on trade and the environment within the World Trade Organization negotiations, and in the private sector as a banker at Standard Chartered Bank in institutional and corporate banking.

Alberto is a LID alumnus from Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Science with a focus on Environmental Economics and Environmental Law and Policy from Lund University in Sweden, and a Bachelors Degree in Banking and Finance from the Universidad Metropolitana in Venezuela.
