Habib N. El-Habr is the former Director and Regional Representative of the United Nations Environment Programme Regional Office for West Asia (UNEP/ROWA) and is now Deputy Coordinator, UNEP/MAP Coordinating Unit (MAP-MEDU). He is also a freshwater specialist, with Ph.D. in Freshwater Ecology in 1987 from University of Lyon, France. He has worked with UNEP since 1988, with the Freshwater Unit at the UNEP Headquarters in Nairobi, the International Environment Technology Centre in Japan and the UNEP Regional Coordinating Unit for East Asian Seas in Thailand, prior to moving to Bahrain.
Besides his expertise in freshwater resources management, Habib during his long experience with UNEP has worked in coastal and marine management, wastewater management, environmental health and environmental assessment. His strength lies in the development of policy options and advice to the concerned governments on major environmental issues. He is also member of the United Nations Disaster Coordination Team.
