Harald Egerer
Harald Egerer heads the UNEP Liaison Office in Vienna and acts as the Executive Secretary of the Framework Convention for the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians ad interim. UNEP Vienna is the Environmental Reference Centre of the Global Mountain Partnership Secretariat. Furthermore, the UNEP Vienna Office - being part of the UNEP Regional Office for Europe - is also in charge of liaising with organisations based in Vienna (such as the UNIDO, IAEA, UNSCEAR, OSCE, Energy Community) or in surrounding region (such as the Regional Environmental Centre REC in Szentendre). UNEP Vienna also hosts the regional desk for South Eastern Europe of the ENVSEC initiative, and also supports the One UN Focal in Point UNEP ROE on operational matters, such as programming of the One UN exercise in Albania and development of the Millennium Development Goals achievement fund proposals for South Eastern Europe.

Harald, born in Vienna/Austria, graduated in law at the University of Vienna. After studies of international relations and environmental law and sciences, he worked as an environmental reporter for the Austrian Press Agency. In 1996, he joined UNEP with Harald specialized on environmental sub-regional cooperation and programming in the South Eastern region and supported the seven Carpathian countries in the development of the Framework Convention on the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians. Within the framework of the global mountain partnership, this experience is being shared with mountain regions all over the world, such as the Andes, the Caucasus, the Karakoram -Himalaya Hindukush regions.
