Experts' profiles - Etienne Gonin
Etienne Gonin
Etienne Gonin joined UNEPs Division of Technology, Industry and Economics (DTIE) in May 2003 and now works there as a consultant in the OzonAction Branch. His work currently focuses on supporting the activities of the Green Customs Initiative. This is an international partnership of 7 treaty secretariats and 3 international organizations (UNEP, World Customs Organization, Interpol, Secretariats of the Basel Convention, Cartagena Protocol, Chemical Weapons Convention, CITES, Montreal Protocol, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions), and the Secretariat is located at DTIE.

The initiative aims at providing awareness raising and capacity building to customs officers on the implementation of the above-mentioned MEAs. The project thus contributes to facilitating legal trade and combating illegal trade in environmentally-sensitive commodities, such as toxic or ozone-depleting chemicals, hazardous waste, toxic chemicals or Living Modified Organisms. See www.greencustoms.org for more details.

Prior to UNEP, Etienne worked in a consulting firm on environmental policy and consumer protection in the US electricity sector, located in Cambridge, MA. He holds a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School (Tufts University), a DEA in Economics from University of Paris IX-Dauphine, and degrees from the University of St Andrews (Scotland) and the IEP of Paris.

Etienne will answer questions in English and French.
