John Carstensen
John Carstensen is a senior manager with 25 years of experience in the field of environment and sustainable development and a background in international and environmental law. He has solid experience in capacity development, training and awareness raising. He has several years of experience at high political and diplomatic level; he chaired the Montreal Protocol Open Ended Working Group for three years from 1993-1995, received the International Ozone Award in 1997 and was personal assistant to two Danish Environment Ministers.

He is currently with UNEP's Post-conflict and Disaster Management Branch where he has been for over a year. He was a member of UNEPs Asian Tsunami Disaster Task Force. He was also based at United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Headquarters, Nairobi for more than three years as a JPO from 1987-1990, and with UNEPs Regional Office for Europe for over three years.

He has planned, developed, formulated and directed the implementation of several bilateral and multilateral development assistance programmes of significant financial magnitude. He has been based in South East Asia (Thailand and Vietnam) for five years and in Egypt for three years negotiating bilateral assistance activities with recipient ministries and organisations and carrying out bilateral development programmes.
