Glenn Dolcemascolo
Glenn Dolcemascolo works in Geneva with UNEPs Post Conflict and Disaster Management Branch as Technical Advisor on Disaster Risk Reduction where he focuses on environmental management for disaster reduction through advocacy and awareness raising, improving technical understanding and building national capacities. Glenn provides technical guidance to ongoing national level initiatives. In Sri Lanka, he supports the Branchs efforts to integrate disaster risk considerations into Strategic Environmental Assessments. In the Maldives, he supports efforts to integrate environmental information into national planning for Safe Islands and in Indonesia he provides technical guidance to the Ministry of Environment in its efforts to play a more active role in national risk reduction efforts. Glenn currently facilitates a Thematic Platform on Environmental and Disaster Reduction through the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) and serves as UNEPs technical focal point to the ISDR System.

He has Ph.D. in Environmental Anthropology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and over ten years experience working on Disaster Reduction with a specialization on climate related issues. At the Pacific Disaster Center, Glenn served as liaison to Asia and supported efforts to build national and regional capacities for disaster reduction. At the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center in Bangkok, his work on extreme climate events focused on building bridges between science, policy and the practice of strengthening community resilience. At the East West Center in Honolulu, he was part of the US National Assessment of the Causes and Consequences of Climate Change and Variability in US-affiliated Pacific Islands. He has also worked extensively in Indonesia on issues of wildfire management.
