Wei Zhao is an Environmental Affairs Officer with UNEP's Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. Throughout her career at UNEP, which included brief stay in Nairobi in 1994, ten years in Paris and two and half years in Bangkok, she has been involved in the area of technology, industry and environment to address environmental issues associated with technological and industrial activities.
Prior to joining the UN, Wei worked in a technical consultancy firm and the Chinese central government where she focused on technological and industrial development and technology transfer. She has been a LEAD (Leadership for Environment and Development initiated by Rockefeller Foundation) fellow since 1994.
Wei conducted a study on innovative industrial initiatives for environmental management at Imperial College in London in 2001 and a study on technology transfer from governmental research institutes to industry in Canada. She had her university degree in polymer processing in Beijing and furthered her training at the Industrial Material Institute of Canadian National Research Council.
