Dr. Ahmad Ghosn is the Natural Resources Programme Officer in the United Nations Environment Programme - Regional Office for West Asia. He has held this post since October 2004. In the capacity of this position, Ahmad provides technical support and policy advice to the West Asia region on the sustainable management of natural resources (land, biodiversity and water related issues) and on the implementation of related UN Conventions and MEAs. He also assumes the responsibility of the Regional Coordinator for the Subregional Action Programme to combat desertification in West Asia (UNCCD/ SRAP – West Asia) under which several projects were conducted.
Ahmad earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Louisiana and Mississippi State Universities in the USA. He has over twenty years of simultaneous experience in: (a) Environmental Management at the international, regional and national levels in the West Asia/ Arab region with emphasis on land, biodiversity and water related issues; (b) Engineering practice, scientific research & university teaching (Geotechnical, Geo-environmental); and (c) Applied Research/ R&D/ Technology Transfer (project management, programme and strategic planning, research policy) with a focus on natural resources and environment. He has over 60 publications in his areas of competence and is a member of several professional associations.
