Pierre Quiblier
Pierre Quiblier is Programme Officer at the United Nations Environment Programme. Since December 2006, he has been appointed to the Geneva based Chemicals Branch to improve the cross-sectoral governance for the sound management of chemicals at the national and local levels and to promote the incorporation of national sound management of chemicals into national development plans and strategies.
Within his functions he developed and coordinated the chemicals Branch contribution into the strategic exercise of UNEP particularly as it relates to the harmful substances and hazardous waste. He developed the UNEP-UNDP Partnership Initiative on the mainstreaming of sound management of chemicals into development plans and policies.
He also ensures liaison with WHO and undertake related environment and health functions in view of strengthening the cooperation in areas of common interest. He led the development and organization, and joined the UNEP-WHO Scientific and Technical Committee for the first inter-Ministerial Health and Environment Conference in Africa held in Libreville, Gabon, 26-29 June 2008. As member of the WHO-UNEP Joint Task Team for the implementation of the Libreville Declaration on Health and Environment in Africa, he also organized the 2nd interministerial Conference held in Luanda, Angola, 23-26 November 2010.

In 2003, he was seconded by UNEP to WHO to co-head the joint WHO-UNEP Secretariat of the Health and Environment Linkages Initiative (HELI). This joint initiative promotes the strategic value of a common approach on health and environment issues and aims at translating the scientific knowledge on the linkages into practical policy tools and actions at the country level.

Prior to joining the WHO Headquarters at Geneva, Pierre Quiblier carried out liaison functions at the United Nations Headquarters within the UNEP New York Office. He represented the Programme at the major intergovernmental negotiations relevant to UNEP including UN General Assembly, Economic and Social Council and the Commission on Sustainable Development. He consolidated and established new partnerships with UN missions and North American constituencies to promote environmental awareness and actions within the region. He also briefed numerous audiences including academics, private sector and NGOs on environmental and sustainable development issues.

Before joining the United Nations he worked at ABC News as an assistant in the production of the overnight news programme.

Pierre Quiblier graduated with a Master of Business Administration degree from Fordham University, New York. He also graduated with a Master's degree in Political Sciences from the University of Grenoble, France.
