Shruti Neelakantan
Shruti Neelakantan, from India was elected as part of the Tunza Youth Advisory Council of UNEP during this years International Children Conference in Bandung Indonesia , as regional representatives for Latin America Africa.
Shruti has completed her B.A in Journalism from M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women, Chennai and has been currently selected for the Young India Fellowship program. The YOUNG INDIA FELLOWSHIP as it is called is modeled on the famous Rhodes scholarship and is an initiative of IFRE in collaboration with UPENN. She has been selected for this program for which more than 3500 Indians had applied and 100 have been shortlisted; with full scholarship for this one year program.
Shruti is the International Climate Champion selected by the British Council in the year 2008. She has been researching and working towards mitigating climate change for five years and has been able to experience effect of climate change first hand since she has been able to visit the Arctic region, the Alps and witnessing the melting of glaciers and other environmental changes. She has also been able to take part in conferences on environment as well as organizing for Eco-kids camp for children for purposes of creating awareness on environmental concerns. Her dream project entails adopting a village and transforming it to an environment friendly model village. She is looking forward to pursue her masters in Sustainable development and specialize in Policy making.
