Marko Berglund
Marko Berglund is an Associate Legal Officer working in the Division of Environmental Law and Conventions (DELC) at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). He is based in Nairobi, Kenya, and joined UNEP and DELCs Biodiversity and Land Law and Governance Unit in October 2007. Since arriving in Nairobi he has primarily worked with an upcoming EC Programme on Capacity-building Related to Implementation of Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Countries.

Prior to joining UNEP, Marko gained work experience in his home country, Finland, where he was employed in the Ministry of the Environment, the University of Joensuu, a UNEP partner university, and a private law firm. In private practice Marko focused on contaminated land and environmental regulatory issues. As a Legal Advisor at the Ministry of the Environment, Marko worked with national implementation of MEAs and advised in general legal issues. Working at the University of Joensuu, he was active in organising the University of Joensuu - UNEP Course on International Environmental Law-making and Diplomacy and edited the Course Review (www.joensuu.fi/unep/envlaw/).

Marko completed his higher education in the United Kingdom. He obtained a BA in Law with French from the University of Sussex, completing a year abroad at the University of Strasbourg, France. He obtained his LL.M in Law with distinction from the University of Edinburgh, writing his thesis on the Protection of Traditional Knowledge Related to Genetic Resources (www.law.ed.ac.uk/ahrc/script-ed/vol2-2/TK.asp).
