Renate Fleiner
Renate Fleiner is an Associate Programme Officer in the Division of Environmental Policy Implementation at UNEP, based in Nairobi, Kenya. Since joining UNEP in October 2007, she has worked in the various activities of the Ecosystem Services and Economics Unit, ranging from Millennium Ecosystem Assessment follow-up activities to activities in the area of economic instruments for ecosystem services such as Payments for Ecosystem Services (PES) with particular focus on equity.

Prior to joining UNEP, she worked in both the public and private sector. Her last assignment as project coordinator and adviser for developing and implementing project activities in the field of natural disaster risk management in Tajikistan on behalf of a Swiss NGO, with major focus on hydrologically caused disasters and activities for prevention, preparedness and small-scale mitigation. Before that, she worked in UBS Switzerland in wealth management and business banking area where she was involved in the implementation of a group-wide project.

She holds a Masters Degree in Geography with focus on Ecology and Developing Countries Research from the University of Zurich, Switzerland, as well as a Master of Advanced Studies in Management, Technology and Economics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, Switzerland.
