Fee-Chon Chong
Fee-Chon Chong, Project Manager, is responsible for eight UNEP/GEF demonstration projects on National Biosafety Framework Implementation. With the completion of these eight projects, Fee-Chon moved from Geneva to the UNEP Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok in mid-July 2007 to become the Regional Coordinator for Biosafety (Asia). As of December 2007, additional responsibilities included working as the DGEF Focal Point/Coordinator the Global Environment Facility Pacific Alliance for Sustainability (GEF-PAS) programme.

Fee-Chon has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Kenya & Ethiopia, since November 2003. Her other professional experience includes nearly 30 years as a scientist specializing in genetic mapping at the former Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia, from where she retired as a Principle Researcher with a merit award for outstanding research performance. She also worked with the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment (MOSTE) Malaysia for four years. Her posts included: Scientific and Technical Manager for BioMalaysia 2002 and Head of Biosafety Secretariat.

She joined UNEP with more than 10 years experience as a UNEP resource person for biosafety development in Asia and the Pacific. She is Malaysias only recipient of the Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship for Plant Biotechnology (1987-1993). She was also an editorial board member for three international journals and has published over 80 papers including four chapters in books. She holds a D.Sc. (Gent), and M.Sc. (Otago, NZ).
