Matthew Conway
Matthew Conway is a program officer with the Joint UNEP/OCHA Environment Unit (JEU), based in Geneva. The JEU is a 16 year-old partnership between UNEP and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. The Unit serves as the UN's primary response mechanism to mobilize and coordinate the international response to environmental emergencies (broadly defined as "sudden, onset disasters or accidents resulting from natural, technological or human-induced factors, or a combination of these, that cause or threaten to cause severe environmental damage as well as harm to human health and/or livelihoods") caused by natural disasters, industrial accidents and complex emergencies.

Matthew counts the Green Star Awards among his key responsibilities, and helped to organize the inaugural edition of the Awards, which took place in May 2009 in tandem with the 8th meeting of the international Advisory Group on Environmental Emergencies, held in Brussels, Belgium that year.
