Zhang Shigang
Zhang Shigang is the UNEP Country Coordinator in China since 2007. During his service, the extensive work of strengthening UNEP's strategic presence in China and partnering with China in mainstreaming environmental policies into relevant sectors has been achieved, especially climate change, green economy and ecosystem management. He has successfully developed an effective communication channel and coordination mechanism between UNEP and Chinese governmental partners. He also serves as the vice chair of UN Theme Group on Climate Change and Environment.
Prior to his position with UNEP, Mr. Zhang served the Government of China for more than two decades with several senior positions. He has tremendous and rich experiences, both national and international, in the areas of environmental sciences and governance, environment diplomacy, nuclear safety and administration. He is an experienced negotiator on multilateral and bilateral issues, which includes global MEAs, regional, sub-regional legal instruments and bilateral environmental agreements.
