Jane Akumu
Jane Akumu is a Programme Officer in the Transport Unit, Energy Branch of the Division of Technology, Industry and Economics. She has been working on promoting environmentally sustainable transport in Africa mainly through the introduction of cleaner fuels and vehicles. This includes support to African countries to adopt lead free petrol, low sulphur fuels concurrent with cleaner, more fuel efficient vehicles strategies as a means to reducing vehicle emissions. She has also been involved in promoting other sustainable transport policies in the region such as increased investment in walking and cycling infrastructure and efficient public transportation programs. Prior to joining UNEP in 2004, she worked for the Government of Kenya, first at the Ministry of Planning then at the Ministry of Energy as head of the Petroleum Monitoring Unit. She holds a Bachelors degree from the University of Nairobi and a Master of Arts degree in Economics from Carleton University in Canada.
